Saimoe Report! – Sakimoe 2012

Welp, gg folks. See you in 2013

Just take a look at that awesome variety above. With this, Saimoe now has its first ever inter-series semi-final. While the tournament has had quite a few final rounds boiling down to two characters from the same series, this is just a whole new order of ridiculousness. As expected, the last two remaining non-Saki characters fell short of victory by a sizeable margin. Louise’s loss was to be expected since Toki already triumphed over Akarin whereas Shana’s loss was basically a pretty good indication that everybody but Sakifags Saki fans are still left in the tournament.

Though it’s obvious that Saki should be the clear victor here due to their unrivalled strength, it’s actually pretty disappointing in a way as I expected much more variety. It’s just incredibly boring and uneventful to watch a single faction steamroll everything that comes their way. An outcome such as this one defeats the entire purpose of even holding a tournament in the first place (2ch might as well have just held another popularity poll for Saki characters). The worst part is that unlike last year there was actually plenty of variety and quite a few other strong factions. But in the end, I suppose none of that matters as it looks like Saimoe might finally be at the end of its leg, with only a core group of dedicated voters left. I’m hoping that 2013 at least sees a slight surge in the amount of voters with the return of factions such as Madoka and Nanoha. With Saki getting yet another season (I swear, the producers are probably in cahoots with 2ch), there’s a good chance some of the most overpowered factions in all of Saimoe history will go head to head. Mind you, this all assumes that the tournament is still up and running next year as interest is definitely on the decline.

As for myself, this is pretty well the end of this year’s Saimoe coverage for me. There really isn’t much else to say at this point but for completion’s sake, I’ll give my final set of predictions for the last few matches.

Semifinal 1: Toki vs. Nodoka

Toki – She’s newer, more popular, beat Akari

Semifinal 2: Kuro vs. Hisa

Kuro - She’s newer, has a more appealing character design, there’s more erotic fanart of her on pixiv

Final: Toki vs. Kuro

Toki – It’s her time (TL Note: Toki means Time )

Speaking of time, I have much better things to do with it, such as playing the hell out of Shiny Festa.
